Terms of Service
Last updated: July 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of CloudCostTree, a command-line tool and VS Code extension ("the Software") provided by CloudCostTree ("we", "us"). By downloading, installing, or using the Software, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Software
CloudCostTree reads infrastructure-as-code files you provide it (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, Terraform state, or its own YAML/JSON format) and produces cost estimates, FinOps recommendations, and policy checks. The Software runs locally on your machine. We do not require or collect your cloud provider credentials, and the Software does not modify or deploy any infrastructure on your behalf.
2. Free and Pro plans
CloudCostTree is available under a Free plan with usage limits described on our pricing page, and a paid Pro subscription that removes those limits and adds additional features. Pro is billed monthly in advance through our payment provider, Paddle (see Section 5).
3. License keys and activation
A Pro subscription is tied to a license key, which may be activated on a limited number of machines at a time. You are responsible for keeping your license key confidential. We may revoke or refuse to activate a license key we reasonably believe has been shared, resold, or obtained fraudulently.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to: (a) reverse engineer the Software except as permitted by law; (b) circumvent or attempt to circumvent license validation or usage limits; (c) resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Software without our written permission; or (d) use the Software in any way that violates applicable law.
5. Payments
Pro subscriptions are sold by our reseller, Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle"), who act as the Merchant of Record for all orders. Paddle handles payment processing, taxes (including VAT/sales tax), invoicing, and provides customer support for billing-related inquiries. By subscribing to Pro, you also agree to Paddle's Buyer Terms. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy for details on cancelling or requesting a refund.
6. Disclaimer of warranty
Cost estimates, FinOps recommendations, and Reserved Instance/Spot savings figures produced by the Software are estimates based on public pricing data and the information you provide. We do not guarantee their accuracy, and they should not be treated as a substitute for reviewing your actual cloud provider bill. The Software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Software, including but not limited to unexpected cloud costs incurred despite using the Software. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
8. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Software if you violate these Terms. You may stop using the Software and cancel your subscription at any time — see our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
9. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Software after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
