Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what data CloudCostTree ("we", "us") collects and why. We designed the Software to need as little of your data as possible.

1. What the Software does locally

CloudCostTree reads infrastructure-as-code files you point it at and computes cost estimates entirely on your own machine. Your Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi files, and any usage data you pass via --usage, are never uploaded to us. We do not require or collect cloud provider credentials.

2. License validation

If you activate a Pro license, the Software sends your license key and a machine identifier to our license validation service so we can confirm your subscription is active. This is the only network request the Software makes that involves data about you, and it happens only when you activate a license or periodically re-validate an existing one (roughly every few days).

3. Payment information

We never see or store your payment card details. Purchases are handled entirely by our payment provider, Paddle, who collects your email address, billing address, and payment method to process your subscription and applicable taxes. Paddle shares your email address and subscription status with us so we can associate your license key with your account and provide support.

4. What we store

For active Pro subscriptions, we store: your license key, the subscription status and renewal date (from Paddle), your email address, and the machine identifiers you've activated the license on. We do not store the contents of any file the Software analyzes.

5. Data sharing

We do not sell your data. We share the minimum necessary data with Paddle (for payment processing) and with infrastructure providers we use to run the license validation service. We do not share your data with any other third party.

6. Data retention

We retain license and subscription data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward for accounting and fraud-prevention purposes. You can request deletion of your data by contacting us (Section 8).

7. This website

This website does not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics. It exists to explain the Software and link to the Paddle checkout for Pro subscriptions.
